Job Overview
We are seeking a Customs Release Agent to support the execution and ongoing improvement of our Customs Department. In this role, you will monitor shipments using the KWE Customs entry production system and carrier websites as needed.
You will also be responsible for receiving and verifying shipments entering Canada across all modes of transportation, including courier, air, ocean, truck, and rail. Additionally, you will prepare documentation for electronic submission to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) using the KWE system to facilitate the release of commercial goods.
Duties
- Provide customs-related services to clients and carriers, including tracing/tracking shipments, verifying charges, and submitting cheque requests.
- Responsible for scanning/imaging files using the DM Document Management tool and organizing them into the appropriate folders.
- Process shipments through the SWI (Single Window Initiative) in coordination with all applicable PGAs (Participating Government Agencies), using the existing client HS code database.
- Ensure all miscellaneous charges are accounted for on entries for client billing, including but not limited to terminal fees, storage, dock delivery, etc.
- Maintain knowledge of how to complete credit release requests during regular business hours and after hours.
- Verify that all documentation contains the necessary information for customs clearance; if information is missing, follow up with clients, carriers, or vendors.
- Keep clients and carriers informed of any processing delays and escalate issues to the Sr. Customs Specialist for further action when required.
- Ensure all correspondence, including client emails, is properly imaged to the entry file using SSD (Solid State Drive) technology.
- Contribute to team initiatives to meet departmental and company objectives and provide input to support the efficient operation of the customs department.
- Provide backup administrative support to reception, including answering incoming telephone calls.
- Encourage effective communication and teamwork by fostering positive working relationships.
- Respond to all emails after regular business hours and ensure they are handled appropriately.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently and achieve daily performance targets.
- Support a safe work environment by adhering to all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
- Report any unsafe conditions or activities to management and/or Human Resources.
- Provide support, backup coverage, and training to the Moncton customs office and other regional offices as needed during vacations, absences, or other situations.
- Carry out any additional job-related or consulting duties as assigned by management
Pay: From $43,000.00 per year
