At Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) and Kamloops Mental Health and Substance Use (KMHSU), you’ll serve as an integral part of the addictions treatment team. Here, you’ll apply your unparalleled expertise and profound compassion to help navigate the complexities of addiction, working to transform lives through individualized care and support.
As an addictions psychiatrist, you’ll play a key role in our collaborative efforts to provide compassionate, comprehensive care. You’ll work with individuals and families facing addiction across diverse settings, including inpatient, outpatient, community-based and concurrent disorder programs. Ensuring culturally-safe, equitable access to mental health and addictions support for all is a top priority.
Within our interdisciplinary team, your expertise will be crucial. You’ll engage in thorough psychiatric assessments, spearhead the crafting and application of sophisticated treatment strategies, and execute vital psychosocial interventions. Enlightening patients and their support circles, you’ll demystify addiction’s intricacies to foster better comprehension and management of these challenges.
The new Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower at RIH provides advanced child and adolescent mental health services, a specialized mental health and substance use inpatient unit, and a 30-bed general psychiatric unit. This includes 20 general beds, 10 high observation beds, and 3 seclusion beds.
Your method will emphasize empathy, advocating for harm reduction, and endorsing a recovery-focused outlook, all of which underscore your commitment to patient welfare. You’ll champion the integration of mental health and addiction services with broader health initiatives, aiming for a unified and effective treatment trajectory for each patient.
Your dedication to educational excellence will shine as you mentor peers, medical undergraduates, postgraduate Family Practice residents, and participants in the UBC–Okanagan Psychiatry program.
