The base salary will be $63,730 - $90,820 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

About Us

The Faculty of Health Sciences is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit, comprised of seven Schools (Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Studies, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders and Food and Nutritional Sciences), a large Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and four Research Centers. The Faculty has more than 4,000 undergraduate students and more than 900 graduate students (200 PhD students).

The Faculty is home to 4 world class research centres including; Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (CCAA), National Center for Audiology (NCA), Centre for Research on Health Equity and Social Inclusion (CHRESI) and the International Centre for Olympic Studies (ICOS). In addition, the Faculty, through the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders operates the H.A. Leeper Speech and Hearing Clinic.

Responsibilities

The Research Coordinator increases capacity for research in the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (CCAA) through support of CCAA, its partners and research partners, to develop an exciting and robust research platform and to support researchers by assisting in the preparation of applications for funding along with post-award data management and information exchange. The role is responsible for supporting the preparation, implementation and completion of research, working closely with the Scientific Director of CCAA and the Research Office in the Faculty of Health Sciences in achieving research objectives. The Research Coordinator supports the day-to-day administrative and financial operations as they pertain to the research program and participates in the analysis and dissemination of research. The role liaises with a variety of stakeholders to build research capacity and ensure the successful coordination of all tasks to achieve the research outcomes.

Qualifications

Education:

Master’s Degree in Health Sciences, Business Management, or relevant discipline with successful thesis/dissertation production
PhD in a relevant discipline preferred

Experience:

3 years of experience in research administration in a research-intensive setting including coordinating research planning and dissemination, preparing grant applications and ethics submissions, developing research budgets and monitoring accounts, and presentation production
5 years of experience in research preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

A record of successful scholarly publication
Familiarity with regulations and guidelines governing research ethics in an academic environment and with best practices for reviewing and writing grant proposals with a record of successful research grant or scholarship applications
Familiarity with financial principles and budgeting with the ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
Project management skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines
Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a research database
Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience with the ability to, communicate and collaborate effectively with the public, students, academic faculty, community partners, CCAA and Western staff, and research associates
Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers and external stakeholders
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage activities both for self and others effectively
Demonstrated ability to research/investigate issues and resolve problems
Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and actively support change initiatives
Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
Communication skills with an ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
Computer skills with statistical software packages and other applications or equipment used to support the laboratory or research project
