West Coast Pre Fab is a locally owned and growing industrial and commercial construction and maintenance company. As the number and value of our projects grow, so does the management and coordination required to maintain on-time and on-budget delivery. We are seeking a Construction or Commercial Project Manager to join our team.
- This position is in commercial steel construction. Residential construction experience may be considered but is not what we are looking for.
A background in commercial project coordination or management or education is required.
WCPF is seeking an ambitious professional for a fast-paced environment. You will have a portfolio of 4-6 jobs that have been awarded, that you will plan, schedule, procure, monitor and cost track.
The majority of the projects will be on Vancouver Island and will require travel, typically during the workday, to sites and offices to ensure clear communication.
Communication is essential in a fast-paced environment where delays are costly. Successful candidates will be comfortable communicating with clients and vendors by phone and email, both, daily.
The specifics and terminology of our industry can be learned over time, but the candidate must be flexible and practical.
Candidates must be comfortable working with a team of engineers, project managers, drafts-people, and trades people. While they will manager their own jobs, they will rely on many others within the organization.
Desired Qualification
Preference given to those with a background related to commercial/institutional/municipal steel construction.
Education in project manager, mechanical trades, technology, or engineering. Job duties and compensation will vary based on candidates experience and qualification. Intermediate or Senior level PM is preferred and will tailor the duties. Other positions are posted for those who don’t yet have this level of experience.
10 years of project management experience anywhere in the world would be an asset, as long as 5 years are in Canada.
Compensation varies widely depending on level of experience and education.
Project management experience is required. Our projects are NOT textbook, with few official PMBOK controls. They are often 1-3 months in duration and focused on immediate deliverables.
Typical Duties
Assist with the development of a scope to accomplish a goal. Walking the site with the client to install: misc metals and industrial stairs, gangways, conveyors, and more. Working with the estimators on how the job was quoted.
Planning a job from concept through execution. Identifying the critical path items and managing around the long lead material procurement.
Working with vendors on materials from BOMs or concepts, including substitutions and expediting.
Monitoring budgets and crew hours, assisting with frequent cost reporting and billing.
Keeping stakeholders informed throughout the project.
Effectively manage new customer development and executing to ensure repeat business.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in Canada is required. Please apply to Project Coordinator positions if under 5 years in this industry.
MS Office familiarity, Outlook, Word and Excel, is required. MS Project a bonus.
Strict adherence to Health & Safety program and an attitude towards safe work.
The job will require (compensated) work outside of business hours to accomplish goals.
Background and credential checks will be used at a later stage as our clients can be government agencies.
Valid driver’s license.
Not a remote position.
Compensation depends on experience and education.
