Electrical and Controls Engineer
We are presently seeking an Electrical and Controls Engineer to work with other team members in the delivery of work related to water and wastewater system controls and automation. Responsible for producing designs, documentation, programming and assist in commissioning. Responsibilities also include providing design support to our project teams, sales teams, as well as outside clients. This role involves a high level of multitasking while working on a wide variety of water and wastewater projects. The ideal candidate enjoys working as a team player in a flexible work environment and seeing their work completed from conception through fabrication. The candidate will report to the Electrical and Controls Manager.
Key Responsibilities
The Electrical and Controls Engineer will report directly to Electrical and Controls Manager and will work closely with Project team members to provide support in the design, execution, start-up and commissioning of control systems and automation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review tender specifications and provide comments.
- Assist Application team with bid responses and estimates.
- Interpret and review PFD, P&IDs, mechanical drawings and layouts.
- Create IO, motor lists, Single Line Diagrams, Bill of materials, cable schedule list and Control System Architecture.
- Design control panel layouts and schematics for electrical equipment and cable routing for engineered skids and containerized systems.
- Create Process Control Narrative, PLC and HMI programs in compliance with project specifications, electrical drawings and P&ID.
- Review and approve electrical drawings of third-party control panel designers prior to submission to client and/or release into production.
- Modification of electrical drawings and preparation of as-built drawings.
- Verification and inspection of control panels as per specifications and approved drawings.
- Electrical wiring, modifications and troubleshooting as required.
- Assist Service department with electrical and controls expertise during start-up and commissioning of projects. Travel to the job site may be required.
- Assist in creating electrical contractors’ scope of work.
- Assist in procuring contractor services and hardware selections for project execution.
- Supervise and inspect electrical contractors’ work.
- Assist with inspections by client and certification authorities.
- Conduct in-house FAT of systems including I/O checks and sequence/logic testing. Document and review with project team the deficiencies list during FAT.
- Work with the project team to ensure the deficiencies list is completed and ensure customer requirements are met 100%.
- Back-up of all projects PLC, HMI, SCADAs and Drives latest files.
- Ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards (e.g. CSA, UL, NFPA, IEC)
- Perform work in compliance with quality management and control systems as well as relevant legislation and safety procedures.
- Follow all company’s safety procedures and protocols.
- Complete and submit all reports as required.
Qualifications
- University or College Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in an Electrical Designer role.
- Certification in Automation and SCADA.
- 3+ years of experience with SCADA.
- Registered as Professional Engineer or eligible to obtain within 6 months.
- Work experience with water and wastewater equipment, commissioning and/or control panel fabrication considered an asset.
Required Skills
- PLC and HMI experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens (hardware and programming)
- SCADA and DCS experience and working with Aveva softwares.
- Knowledge of communications protocol – Modbus, Ethernet, Profinet/Profibus, RS Network, RS Linx.
- Ability to configure, setup, troubleshoot VFD.
- Proficiency in Electrical AutoCAD and Microsoft Suite of Applications.
- Desire to continually develop professional skills.
- Familiarity with Electrical Codes, Standards and Certifications such as CSA, UL, NFPA, IEC.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-starter with a strong ability to work independently while functioning as part of an effective team.
- Attention to detail and well organized.
- Able to work with flexibility while maintaining high standards and quality work
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced environment on projects ranging from preliminary studies to detailed design

Pay: $95,000.00-$115,000.00 per year
