About the Position
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Project Accountant will be responsible for supporting active development and construction projects across the portfolio. This role is responsible for full-cycle project accounting activities, including project setup, cost tracking, WIP reporting, and coordination with Project Managers and the broader finance team. Some of the duties include but are not limited to:
- Set up new projects in the accounting system, making sure budgets, cost codes, and basic project details are accurate from the start
- Help maintain project budgets and track updates as costs change over the course of a project
- Keep Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules up to date and ensure they tie back properly to project activity
- Track project costs and allocations, flagging any inconsistencies or unusual variances
- Review and process project invoices, ensuring they’re coded correctly and supported by the right documentation
- Support the preparation of billing and progress draws, including pulling together backup and checking for accuracy
- Prepare monthly reporting packages for Project Managers so they have a clear view of project performance and costs
- Complete reconciliations to make sure project financials are accurate and up to date
- Work closely with Project Managers on budgets, forecasts, and any changes in project costs
- Join bi-weekly project meetings to provide financial updates and answer questions as needed
- Support general project accounting work and help with ad hoc tasks when required
Requirements
- 1–2+ years of experience in project accounting or real estate accounting
- Diploma or degree in accounting
- Exposure to development or construction lifecycle strongly preferred
- Yardi experience is an asset.
