Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Recreation Specialist to develop, coordinate, and lead engaging programs for residents in a 55+ independent living community. This role focuses on enhancing the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive well-being of active older adults through inclusive, resident-driven recreational opportunities.
Duties
- Create and implement a variety of recreation programs tailored to independent older adults (e.g., fitness classes, arts and crafts, games, social events, and educational workshops).
- Encourage resident engagement and participation by fostering a welcoming and inclusive community atmosphere.
- Adapt programs to meet a range of interests, abilities, and activity levels.
- Build strong relationships with residents and support a sense of community and belonging.
- Create monthly newsletter and activities calendar to provide information to residents and their families
- Coordinate and support evening and weekend activities and special events.
- Monitor participant safety and well-being during programs.
- Gather feedback and evaluate program success to continuously improve offerings.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and program outcomes.
- Ensure activity spaces and equipment are safe, clean, and well-maintained.
- Collaborate with other staff and external partners to enhance programming.
Experience
- Diploma or degree in Recreation, Leisure Studies, Gerontology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience working with older adults, preferably in independent living or community-based settings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lead group activities and foster engagement.
- Understanding of active aging and wellness principles is an asset.
Pay: $18.50-$19.00 per hour

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (required)
