Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Job Summary: The Hazardous Material Removal Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently removing hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead, mould, and other hazardous materials from various job sites. This role involves following strict safety protocols, using specialized equipment, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Hazardous Material Removal:
- Safely remove hazardous materials from residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
- Follow detailed work plans and instructions for material removal.
- Use specialized equipment and techniques to handle and dispose of hazardous materials.
- Identify and assess the presence of hazardous materials in various environments.
- Implement containment procedures to prevent the spread of hazardous substances.
- Decontaminate affected areas following removal procedures.
- Ensure proper labeling and storage of hazardous materials during transportation.
- Coordinate with disposal facilities to ensure safe and compliant disposal of hazardous materials.
Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
- Comply with OH&S, and other relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in safety training sessions and stay updated on best practices.
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations regarding hazardous material removal.
- Report any safety violations or concerns to the Foreperson immediately.
- Assist in the development and implementation of safety protocols and procedures.
Administrative Duties (Using Assigner):
- Prepare and submit necessary documentation for time sheets and inspections.
Site Preparation and Containment:
- Prepare job sites for hazardous material removal, including setting up containment areas.
- Seal off work areas to prevent contamination of surrounding environments.
- Ensure proper ventilation and decontamination procedures are followed.
- Install and maintain negative air pressure systems to control airborne particles.
- Ensure all containment measures are properly implemented and maintained throughout the project.
- Conduct pre-removal inspections to identify potential hazards and plan containment strategies.
Equipment Maintenance:
- Inspect and maintain equipment regularly to ensure proper functioning.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or needs for repair.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are stored safely and securely.
- Perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment used for hazardous material removal.
Waste Disposal:
- Properly package and label hazardous materials for transportation and disposal.
- Follow all protocols for the safe transport and disposal of hazardous waste.
- Maintain accurate records of waste materials removed and disposed of.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Report any incidents, accidents, or near misses to the supervisor immediately.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other team members to ensure efficient and safe project execution.
- Participate in team meetings and safety briefings.
- Communicate effectively with the supervisor and other crew members.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- CSTS 2020 / WHIMIS
- Alberta Asbestos Worker Permit
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in hazardous material removal or a related field.
- Knowledge of hazardous material removal processes, regulations, and best practices.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, and working in confined spaces.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Working Conditions:
- This role requires working in various environments, including industrial, commercial, and residential sites.
- Must be able to work in potentially hazardous conditions while wearing PPE.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Casual
Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour

- Abatement: 2 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
