The Director, Business Development, is responsible for building relationships with key Canadian exporters and suppliers for assigned sectors—infrastructure, defence and security, aerospace, energy, or agriculture — across designated international regions. This particular position will focus primarily in the Aerospace Sector. The director develops a deep understanding of Canadian capabilities and works in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to close international business deals for major international projects.
What you’ll be doing

Provide market expertise and sectoral insights, seek out areas of innovation; set vision and provides strategic direction for CCC’s services and other business growth opportunities for assigned sector and designated region to increase Canadian market share

Utilize breadth and depth of subject matter expertise, gather, and manage sector market intelligence, work with Canadian businesses for exporter activity with international buyers, and develop and maintain relationships in order to sign contracts

Provide leadership, technical expertise, tactical direction, and promote use of CCC services in alignment with forecasted business targets and key performance indicators (KPIs)

Collaborate with and oversee project/pursuit team members for specific relationships and specific projects with attention to risk mitigation and deal closure and articulate CCC’s role, process, capabilities, challenges, and limitations

Direct identification, prospecting, and qualification criteria and collaborate with internal stakeholders for Canadian export sales opportunities in selected international markets within gated business development process

Report on prospective projects, provide sector/region activity and event reports, feed analysis, and prepare content for submissions to internal and external stakeholders e.g., Risk and Opportunity Committee (ROC), Senior Management Committee (SMC), Board of Directors and/or additional submissions to the government ministers

Travel domestically and internationally, develop and maintain effective business relationships; meet with a range of external decision-making and industry stakeholders, present opportunities and value proposition to support international contracts; and update and maintain customer relationships management database

Engage strategically within the Portfolio of the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, including with EDC, the Trade Commissioner Service and with ISED in support of Canadian exporters
What you’ll bring to CCC

Completion of university degree in finance, economics, commerce, business administration, engineering, or a related discipline

Minimum of 10 years of previous experience in progressive business development roles

Knowledge, skills, and experience in leadership and management practices including strategic and operational planning, performance, project, and change management, and information management and information technology activities

Knowledge of issues, trends, best practices, and challenges related to risk management, financial planning, business development, business and government relations, procurement, and results-based outcomes

Knowledge of relevant local, provincial, and federal legislation and regulations including collective agreements

Knowledge of relevant economic, political, legal, cultural, and social contexts of partners and stakeholders

Bilingualism (C-C-C) in both Official Languages is imperative
