PDC is looking for a motivated, safety-conscious Apprentice Machinist in their 3rd or 4th year to join our team. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced Journeyperson CNC Machinists to learn and support the production of high-quality parts using CNC machining equipment. You’ll gain hands-on experience with setup, machine operation, inspections, and general shop practices while continuing to build your technical skills and safety knowledge through the provincial apprenticeship program. This is a safety-sensitive position that includes operating lifting devices and working in a machining environment.
This position is open to 3rd year or higher apprentices; however, individuals in earlier stages may be considered if they demonstrate strong potential or prior experience.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Assist with setting up and operating CNC machines, including loading parts, making basic adjustments, and maintaining a clean work area.
- Support in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to learn how to interpret dimensions and tolerances.
- Develop your skills using precision measuring instruments to inspect and verify components.
- Support routine maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of machines and the work area.
- Shadow experienced machinists to build hands-on experience with programming, tooling, and troubleshooting.
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
- Safely use lifting devices under supervision to move materials and parts.
- Help support smooth shift transitions by documenting completed work, noting any irregularities, and communicating ongoing needs.
- Attend and participate in internal training, toolbox talks, and safety meetings to support development.
- Take on other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Registered as a 3rd or 4th Year Machinist Apprentice through the Alberta Apprenticeship Program.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine interest in machining and manufacturing.
- Eager to learn, take direction, and ask questions when needed.
- Familiarity with shop tools and safety equipment is considered an asset.
- Basic knowledge of measurement tools and an interest in building technical skills.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
- Able to adapt to changing tasks, priorities, and shop demands.

Shift: Monday through Thursday, 6AM – 4:30PM or 4PM to 2:30AM
