Overview
The Mechanic / Equipment Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, repair, and safe operation of the Company;s vehicles, trailers, landscaping equipment, and small engines. The position plays a critical role in ensuring that all wquipment remains in safe working condition and available to support daillllllllllly landscaping operations.
The Mechaninc/Equipment Technician reports to the Operation Manager and workd closely with filed cres to minimize equipment downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Repair
- Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain landscaping equipment, vehicles, trailers, and machinery
- Perform preventative maintenance on lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, skid steers, compact equipment, trucks, trailers, snow removal equipment, and other Company assets
- Repair and replace worn or defective parts, components, and systems
- Maintain hydraulic, electrical, fuel, ignition, braking, steering, suspension, and drive systems as required
- Perform welding, fabrication, and equipment modifications where necessary and qualified to do so
- Conduct equipment testing and road-testing following repairs, if applicable
Fleet and Asset Management
- Monitor the condition and performance of Company vehicles and equipment
- Schedule and perform regular maintenance services and inspections
- Maintain maintenance records, service logs, repair documentation, and equipment history
- Assist in managing inventory levels of parts, fluids, tools, and shop supplies
- Recommend replacement or disposal of equipment when appropriate
Operational Support
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency repair requests
- Perform field service and roadside repairs when required
- Assist with equipment preparation, setup, transportation, and seasonal changeovers
- Support landscaping and snow removal operations with equipment-related technical expertiseConduct equipment testing and road-testing following repairs, if applicable
Health and Safety
- Comply with all Company health and safety policies, procedures, and applicable legislation
- Use all required personal protective equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Report workplace hazards, incidents, equipment defects, and safety concerns immediately
General Duties
- Maintain a valid driver's licence suitable for operating Company vehicles, DZ license as well
- Attend training and safety meetings as required
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as reasonably assigned by the Employer
- Assist with yard maintenance, shop organization, equipment cleaning, and other operational tasks as required
Working Conditions
The Employee acknowledges that this position:
- Involves physically demanding work
- Requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg) or more, with assistance where appropriate
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, and working in confined or awkward spaces
- May require working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, mud, dust, and wind
- May involve exposure to noise, vibration, fuels, lubricants, chemicals, and mechanical hazards
- May require overtime, emergency repairs, seasonal schedule changes, and occasional weekend work based on operational requirements
Experience
- Experience repairing and maintaining landscaping equipment, small engines, commercial vehicles, trailers, or related machinery
- Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and understand service manuals, repair procedures, and technical documentation
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and acceptable drivers abstract
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks
- Strong commitment to workplace safety
