Chinook House is an admission/mood and thought disorder unit at CCMHBI. The AHN role for Chinook House offers a chance to grow both your clinical and leadership skills. In close collaboration with the Unit Manager, psychiatrists and multidisciplinary team, your role will involve patient care, communication with families and the interdisciplinary team, and ensuring that quality, patient centered care is being provided. A passion for seniors and their complex needs is essential. Strong medical and psychiatric assessment skills, critical thinking, and adaptability are crucial. Reporting to the Unit Manager the Assistant Head Nurse coordinates the interdisciplinary patient care process in accordance with the objectives and standards of the Seniors Mental Health Program. While the Assistant Head Nurse meets the position and responsibilities of the RN/RPN, it largely provides clinical leadership to interdisciplinary team members in providing patient and family centered care, including mentorship and leadership while forming strong relationships with colleagues, patients and their families.
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of progressive nursing leadership experience and 5 years of psychiatric experience in a Seniors Mental Health acute inpatient setting is required. Minimum 3 years of experience developing, implementing and reviewing care plans for seniors with complex mental health and physical comorbidities as they work to discharge to the level of care appropriate to their needs. Good working knowledge of dementia and mood thought disorders, the Mental Health Act, Guardianship and Trustee Act and Protection for Persons in Care Act is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year experience with Connect Care.
