Nurturing Behaviours Inc. is seeking Independent Contractor Respite Workers to provide 1:1 support to children and families, with contracts available across London, St. Marys, Lucan, Stratford, Strathroy, Woodstock, and Ingersoll areas (not exclusively).
Respite services are provided to children and youth ages 2–18 and may take place in family homes, community locations, or our centre, depending on family needs. Our goal is to provide families with meaningful respite to help prevent caregiver burnout, while offering children and youth a fun, safe, and supportive environment.
This is a contract-based role with opportunities for daytime, evening, weekend, and occasional holiday hours. This position is best suited for contractors seeking flexibility, autonomy, and near full-time availability, particularly during evenings and weekends.
Key Details:
- This is an independent contractor role, not employment
- Contractors provide their own materials, transportation, and equipment
- Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, CPP/EI, and business expenses
- Contractors may work concurrently with other organizations or private clients
- No payroll, benefits, or employee policies apply
- Contractors may accept, decline, and plan sessions for contracts they choose
Service areas vary by client need. A valid full G licence and reliable vehicle are required.
Availability for evenings and weekends is required, as these are the most common respite times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to children and youth with developmental or physical disabilities
- Provide personal care as required (including toileting and bathroom routines)
- Transport individuals during respite (e.g., outings, community activities, centre visits)
- Use appropriate emotional regulation and de-escalation strategies as needed
- Plan activities and outings in collaboration with caregivers
- Update availability monthly
- Communicate effectively with families, the Respite Coordinator, and other team members
- Complete communication logs and time sheets following each session
- Submit required documentation by established deadlines
Skill/Qualifications:
- Experience supporting individuals with disabilities
- Experience with personal care (feeding and toileting)
- Experience working with children or youth
- Patient, reliable, and professional
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work and problem-solve independently
- Education or training in a related field is an asset
- Access to a reliable vehicle (proof of full G license and insurance required)
- Clean driver’s abstract
- Current Vulnerable Sector / Broad Sector Check
- Standard First Aid & CPR and some form of Safe Management Training
(or willingness to obtain if not already certified)
Compensation:
- Rates agreed on per client - contractors may accept, decline, or propose rates
- Higher rates may be available for more complex behavioural needs
- Contractors submit time sheets (invoices) for services provided per client for reimbursement - templates are provided by the organization
