Jr. Buyer/Planner

We have an opening for a Jr. Buyer/Planner at our SE Technical Centre. The primary responsibility of the Jr. Buyer/Planner is to maintain a supplier base in support of the Company’s Supply Chain/Operations. This position will require a dedicated, high energy, driven individual capable of executing procurement for products & services related to oilfield services, material, and equipment, through established & qualified vendors. The Jr. Buyer/Planner is to execute best practices in areas of procurement & planning when selecting vendors, requirement dates, availability, lead times, quality, price, and past vendor performance. Additional responsibilities include the review & recommendation of safety stock settings, economic order quantities, order/sales multiple and minimum order quantities, item coverage settings, vendors, strategic sourcing, QHSE, accounting, logistics, regional supply chains and engineering.
Responsibilities also include:
- Review purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy.
- Purchase and expedite required materials, services, and parts.
- Prepare and issue requests for quotes to determine optimal purchases.
- Procurement of tactical commodities with best cost, quality, terms, and deliveries.
- Maintain a strong supplier base and adhere to supply agreements set forth by Supply Chain Manager.
- Ensure QHSE/Engineering has qualified vendor prior to procurement.
- Manage the communication of materials and information to the vendor, ensuring NDA’s are in place.
- Issue purchase orders using sound purchasing practices and applicable Company policy.
- Negotiate best value and monitor order progress maximizing OTD performance.
- Expedite the supply of material in accordance with the contracted delivery date and required date.
- Communicate internally to customers of any required dates that cannot be met and provide updates of any changes.
- Drive cost reduction on purchases by 5% annually without compromising quality or delivery performance.
- Utilize MRP to identify and plan procurement requirements and establish strategies.
- Utilize safety stock and forecasting practices methodology.
- Maintain VMI levels set forth by Buyer/Planner and the maintenance thereof where applicable.
- Arrange for transportation and/or storage of purchased products.
- Recommend cost saving proposals including JIT, VMI, Bond programs or alternate sourcing.
- Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control.
- Work closely with Engineering to ensure accurate information is shared with vendor.
- Ensure proper approval has been obtained before issuing the PO to the supplier.
- Ensure correctness of PO generations as per procedure.
- Track and manage vendor performance.
- Assist other departments with various projects when time permits.
- Perform all duties so as to meet the responsibilities listed in the Employee and Corporate HSE Handbooks.
- Perform duties according to the Company’s quality system procedures and work instructions.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year procurement experience in drilling industry
- Understanding of local vendor base and product knowledge
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems - Preference to SAP
- Knowledge of key supply chain/logistic processes, current best practices, & commercial terms & conditions
- PMAC / APICS certification is considered an asset
