Job type: Contract - Seasonal (May to October)
Location: Field-based - Projects around Canada
Day Rate: $420 - $505 per day based on 12-hour field day
Travel Arrangement, meals and accommodation are provided by the company.
Reporting to: Geologist Project Manager
Job Purpose
The Exploration Geologist’s role is to traverse remote, undiscovered territory and collect valuable data by conducting geological fieldwork and performing other specialized field support work on different projects. This role will support drilling and exploration programs through geological logging, sampling, data management, and reporting activities.
This role’s critical contribution to the success of the company is to yield acute, consistent and accurate geological data that can be relied upon to identify and target areas of interest, leading to future drill programs and potential discovery of large mineral deposits.
Job Overview:
The job will involve fieldwork during active exploration projects, with a rotation-based schedule of approx. 3 weeks on and 1 weeks off *subject to change based on program needs, weather or other
logistical constraints. The Exploration Geologist will report directly to Geologist Project Manager
Job Responsibilities

Conduct RAP/RC chip logging using XRF.

Monitor and maintain geological databases and ensure accurate data entry.

Perform QA/QC procedures and sample tracking.

Supervise drilling and sampling activities in the field.

Perform Optical Televiewer (OTV) data acquisition and support interpretation of structural data.

Communicate geological findings and any inconsistencies with technical teams.

Prepare daily reports using Fulcrum.

Ensure compliance with company safety and environmental procedures.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Geologist Project Manager
Camp Responsibilities:
The Exploration Geologist is responsible for:
Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized camp environment.
Assisting with wall tent assembly and teardown for efficient mobilization.
Sharing daily chores, including cooking, cleaning, and securing wood and water.
Ensuring all camp equipment is functional and well-maintained.
Charging electronic tools and radios daily to ensure workday readiness.
Safety and Integrity Responsibilities
Follow all company Health and Safety protocols.
Report all hazards, incidents, injuries, and non-conformances.
Uphold employee safety rights, including the right to refuse unsafe work.
Maintain professionalism in the field, camp, and transit; participate in safety meetings and Emergency Response Plans.
Wear and maintain required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Represent GroundTruth’s core values of social and environmental responsibility to all stakeholders.
Maintain professional conduct on projects and within local communities.
Ensure confidentiality and maintain transparent communication with management.
Field - Working Conditions
The Exploration Geologist position requires employees to work outside in various terrain and weather conditions. The weather conditions include but are not limited to; a temperature range of -35°C to +35° C, very dry to very humid climate, heavy rainfall, lightning storms, wind and snow. Terrain can vary from rolling hills to steep mountain sides that will be traversed on foot daily.
A typical field season runs from mid-May to late October. Extreme isolation in a wilderness setting is one of the perks of the job but is also one of the factors that increases the risks with this type of work. Wildlife is plentiful, including bears, moose, and wolves.
Workdays are 12-hour shifts that run 7 days a week for the duration of the project unless otherwise stated. Shifts are typically 21 days on and 7 days off (excluding travel days), however, changes happen frequently depending on contracts and logistical considerations.
The project location may be reached by a variety of transportation methods such as truck, helicopter, boat, fixed-wing aircraft or all-terrain vehicles.
Every camp will be provided with a wall tent or tents with similar structures depending on location, satellite internet and all other camp elements.
Employees will be working and living in close quarters with the rest of their crew for the duration of the project.
Communication outside of and at camp may be limited as there is no cellphone service, and the satellite internet, if available, is not high-speed.
Exploration projects are frequently remote and isolated. It is important to recognize that transportation between the project and the city may take upwards of 10 hours.
Lifting and Physical Requirements-Field Component:
This role requires a high degree of physical strength and stamina to perform the job responsibilities. Physical demands may include:
- Lifting up to 50 Lbs. unassisted
- Repetitive bending
- Hiking on uneven/ mountainous terrain for extended periods of time
- Exposure to cold and exposure to heat
- Exposure to noise
Gear Requirement:
Exploration Field Gear provided by GroundTruth Group of Companies is to be used strictly for company fieldwork and will be assigned at the beginning of the season. All employees will be responsible for the maintenance and care of the gear. Employees will be required to supply appropriate personal gear including work clothes, underlayers, work gloves, full rain gear (jacket and pants), work boots with rigid ankle support, personal camping gear and a Leatherman or similar multi-tool knife.
Position Requirements
Geology degree (BSc.), Earth Sciences and Environmental procedures.
Previous experience in mineral exploration or drilling programs preferred 1-3 years.
Experience with RC/RAB is an asset.
Strong computer and data management skills.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Valid First Aid Standard.
