Position Summary
The Hairstylist / Salon Assistant will support daily salon operations while gaining hands-on experience in natural hair care and client service. This role is designed to provide youth with practical skills, mentorship, and exposure to the beauty industry.
Job Details
- 8-week Canada Summer Jobs position
- 35 hours per week
- $17.60/hour
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with hair washing, conditioning, and basic treatments
- Support stylists with braiding preparation, sectioning, and product application
- Help maintain clean and sanitized workstations
- Greet clients and assist with customer service and appointment flow
- Learn natural hair styling techniques (twists, simple braids, etc.)
- Assist with inventory organization and product restocking
- Observe and support loc maintenance and protective styling services
Skills Developed
Participants will gain:
- Hands-on experience in natural hair care and salon operations
- Customer service and communication skills
- Workplace professionalism and time management
- Knowledge of hygiene, sanitation, and health standards
- Introduction to entrepreneurship and small business operations
Supervision & Mentorship Plan
- Direct supervision by the Salon Owner/Lead Stylist
- Daily task guidance and performance feedback
- On-the-job training in: natural hair care basics, client interaction, salon workflow, weekly check-ins to review progress and skill development

To be eligible, youth must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
