Purpose:
The purpose of the Plumber potion is to plan, install, and/or service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls. These piping systems may be used to transport water, waste, gases, or hot liquids. The Plumber provides effective service/repairs to plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems within the CBE.

Responsibilities:
- Studies building plans and specifications to identify the layout for the plumbing and other materials, locates and marks the positions for connections and fixtures, selects the type and size of pipe required, assembles and installs valves, fixtures and fittings, joins pipe sections and secures them in position; and tests pipe systems and all related components for leaks.
- Identifies work priorities and schedules work in consultation with the Area Maintenance Supervisor.
- Inspects equipment and determines necessary repairs and expedites procurement of plumbing related parts and materials.
- Analyses temperature and pressure levels and other instrument readings to ensure safe and efficient operation of mechanical equipment.
- Utilizes drawings and/or specifications, site visit measurements, material quantity take-offs, known labor rates and other information available, to produce accurate estimates for work covered in this trade.
- Makes recommendations to the Area Maintenance Supervisor for future Infrastructure Maintenance Program upgrades.
- Performs routine and preventive maintenance functions on plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls.
- Completes work orders as assigned.
- Assists in the design and inspection of new schools and modernizations as required.
- Assists the Area Maintenance Supervisor in determining stock levels and types of plumbing related materials to be procured.
- Adequately stocks vehicle when a service vehicle is assigned. Maintains cleanliness and basic service checks.
- Instructs and assists Facility Operators in building operation with respect to plumbing related matters and repairs.
- Works collaboratively with all other trades in the repair/service of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- May assume duties of Foreman as required.
- Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Must possess Journeyman certificates in Plumbing and Gas Fitting.
- Steam Fitting and Cross Connection Control certificates and knowledge about pneumatic and electrical and direct digital control systems are assets.
- Experience with boiler operations, repair and inspection procedures is a definite asset.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
- Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to keep accurate records.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computers is essential.
- Self-motivated; able to work independently without supervision, strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
- Skilled at maintaining and enhancing levels of service delivery and customer focus is required.
- Willingness to upgrade and maintain current with practices and trends.
- Must be physically able to complete all demands and responsibilities of the position and work in inclement weather over a scheduled shift.
- Six months successful experience working in a Facility Operations Area.
