JOURNEYPERSON CARPENTER – LEAD HAND Full-Time · Permanent · Residential/commercial/ New Build & Renovation
We're a company that's growing the right way — steadily, with a team we're proud of and work we stand behind. We're looking for a skilled Journeyperson Carpenter ready to step into a Lead Hand role on active job sites. We reward your skills with a home life, in town work.
If you've spent years doing quality work and you're done bouncing between employers this is the position. No lay offs, working with a team.
This is a hands-on leadership position. You'll work alongside your crew. You'll be trusted with the autonomy to run your day, solve problems on site, and bring younger carpenters up to your standard. In return, you'll have stable, full-time employment with a company that means what it says.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead a small crew of carpenters and apprentices across residential new builds and renovation projects
- Plan daily work, stage materials, and delegate tasks under site manager direction
- Perform and oversee all phases of rough and finish carpentry — framing, sheathing, trim, cabinetry, doors, windows, and stairs
- Keep job sites safe, organized, and running efficiently
- Communicate directly with the site manager on progress, scheduling, and any issues
- Mentor apprentices and junior carpenters — share what you know, set the standard
- Read and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications
- Handle on-site challenges independently and escalate when it counts
YOUR SKILLS
- Strong residential framing — walls, floors, roofs, structural work
- Finish carpentry you're proud to put your name on: trim, moulding, built-ins, millwork
- Full renovation experience, including heritage and occupied homes
- Formwork, blocking, backing, fire-stopping
- Layout, levelling, squaring, and confident use of hand and power tools
- Working knowledge of residential building codes and site safety
WHO YOU ARE
- Self-directed — you manage your time and your crew without needing to be watched
- A straight communicator — clear and respectful with your team and management alike
- Accountable — you own the quality and conduct of your site
- Calm under pressure and focused on solutions, not excuses
- The kind of person who shows up on time, works safely, and gives a damn about the finished product
REQUIREMENTS
- Journeyperson Carpenter certificate.
- Minimum 5 years post-certification field experience
- Demonstrated lead hand or supervisory experience
- Valid, clean Class 5 driver's licence
- Current Criminal Record Check — clear
- Reliable transportation to job sites
- Own basic hand tools standard to the trade
- Able to work outdoors in all weather
WHY CONSIDER US
We're not a revolving door. We invest in people who invest in us. If you're a tradesperson who's tired of the instability and just wants to do good work for a company with its act together — we'd like to talk.
