Summary
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to oversee the company’s financial reporting and accounting processes. The position is a Temporary Full-Time position to cover for a maternity leave. The role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data while supporting monthly and year-end close activities.
The Financial Controller works collaboratively across departments and entities to maintain strong internal controls, support financial compliance, and provide meaningful financial insights to support management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete the company’s financial reporting and accounting processes.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, and detailed balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with accounting standards.
- Perform account analysis and provide variance explanations to support the General Manager and leadership team.
- Prepare and reconcile intercompany transactions and balances, including eliminations and resolution of discrepancies between entities.
- Maintain accurate and well-documented supporting schedules for assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses.
- Assist with sales tax filings, reconciliations, and related supporting documentation.
- Help maintain and strengthen internal controls, ensuring policies, documentation, and procedures are consistently applied.
- Support ERP system enhancements, reporting improvements, and financial data integrity initiatives.
- Collaborate with operational and departmental teams to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency of financial data.
- Assist with financial analysis and management reports to support operational planning and strategic decision-making.
- Support audit preparation, compliance requirements, and ongoing process improvements.
Qualifications
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting detailed reconciliations.
- Knowledge of multi-entity and multi-country accounting, intercompany transactions, and close processes preferred.
Systems & Technical Skills
- Proficiency with ERP and accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle).
- Advanced Excel skills and strong data analysis capabilities.
Analytical & Organizational Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Communication & Collaboration
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and support finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- Experience in operational accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and multi-entity environments across multiple countries.
- Exposure to internal controls, audit support, and tax compliance is considered an asset.
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation required or near completion.
