About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Basketball Coach to lead after-school basketball programs for children and youth. The ideal candidate is passionate about basketball and enjoys helping students develop their skills, confidence, teamwork, and love for the game in a fun and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead engaging basketball practices and activities for students of various ages and skill levels.
- Teach fundamental basketball skills including dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, and game strategies.
- Plan age-appropriate drills, skill development activities, and mini-games.
- Create a positive, inclusive, and encouraging team environment.
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and confidence.
- Ensure student safety and proper use of equipment.
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to support player development.
- Communicate with program staff regarding class progress and attendance.
Qualifications
- Strong basketball knowledge and playing experience.
- Previous coaching or teaching experience with children/youth is preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate and explain basketball techniques clearly.
- Energetic, patient, and positive leadership style.
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- First Aid/CPR certification and vulnerable sector screening are assets.
Program Structure & Schedule
- Afterschool Program
- Runs September-June
- Must be available from 3:30 PM onward on weekdays (1-3 times per week)
