POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of the Health & Safety Coordinator is to assist with the successful implementation of the corporate Health & Safety Program. This position ensures the projects completed by our organization champion a strong safety culture and comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administer the Corporate Health and Safety Program;
- Help maintain valid COR certification for all of the provinces in Atlantic Canada we operate in;
- Regularly review and make recommendations to update company health & safety policies and procedures;
- Work with Operations to maintain a current database of safe work practices and ensure all projects have the required safe work practices;
- Oversee and approve health and safety program content to be included in tendering;
- Assist with the development of site specific safety plans in collaboration with the health and safety manager, project management team, clients, subcontractors and other trade contractors as required;
- Participate in the review and approval of subcontractor pre-qualifications;
- Deliver health and safety orientation of new hires as well as supervisor training where applicable;
- Review employee training programs to ensure required competencies are maintained;
- Regularly review employee training records and schedule training to close gaps and/or upcoming expiring items;
- Travel occasionally to project sites to assist with health & safety inspections;
- Prepare weekly health and safety performance statistics for the Health & Safety Manager;
- Assist with incident investigations and determining corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence;
- Maintain membership and actively participate in appropriate health and safety associations;
- Adhere to all company policies, standards, procedures and safe work practices; and,
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
- Post-secondary education, diploma or equivalent in occupational health and safety;
- Prior direct experience working in occupational health and safety an asset;
- A working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation both provincially and federally;
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suit (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills;
- High attention to detail with a strong analytical ability to assess job sites and workplaces for potential safety risks;
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage competing priorities in order to meet deadlines;
- Must be willing to travel occasionally, sometimes overnight as required; and,
- A valid drivers licence.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Regular travel with extensive driving;
- Often traversing uneven ground when visiting project sites;
- Occasional periods of work in extreme weather conditions when visiting project sites; and,
