Job Description
Reporting to the Project Manager, Data & Voting Technology, the Election Assistant will support and implement all aspects of the municipal election with specific responsibilities supporting vote counting equipment and technologies. Key responsibilities include testing vote counting equipment, data entry, quality assurance testing, and technology support. The role will also be providing election technology training support and customer service.
- Tests, operates and deploys election voting equipment. Travelling to off-site locations, as required.
- Loads/unloads election supplies and equipment such as paper products, cardboard, equipment, boxes, furniture, etc.
- Receives inventories and distributes documents and election supplies using dolly or hand-operated pump lift.
- Assembles technology supply bags/carts.
- Sets up furniture, equipment and supplies.
- Provides proofing to ensure quality control of election products such as ballots, voters lists, and voting place supplies.
- Performs clerical duties such as assisting with training sessions, data entry and photocopying/faxing, sorting, collating, etc.
- Operates voting equipment, computer terminals, peripherals, and network devices.
- Provide customer service troubleshooting support in person and over the phone to voting place staff on use of voting technology.
Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:
- Experience with proofreading, conducting quality assurance, and processing, sorting, and delivering supplies and equipment in a warehouse or similar environment.
- Experience working in a customer service and team environment, effectively dealing with the public and staff in person and on the telephone.
- Experience working with various hardware technologies, and using Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook), including working within a Windows operating-system environment
- A valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for work hours.
- Ability to perform inventory control including quality assurance.
- Ability to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs (23 kgs)
- Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and ability to work on multiple projects in fast-paced environment.
- Problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to deal with challenging situations in an efficient and diplomatic manner with the ability to handle information of a confidential/sensitive nature.
- Ability to perform office duties such as creating and formatting documents, filing.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime during peak periods including evenings, statutory holidays and weekends as required.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the City of Toronto and work in inclement weather conditions.
- Access to a vehicle and being comfortable with travelling to different areas of the City.
- Knowledge of matters related to equity, inclusion and accessibility.
