Red Chris is a gold and copper mine located in the Tahltan Territory, northern British Columbia. The mine has been in operation since 2015 and has been operated by Newmont since 2023.
Red Chris is now transitioning from open pit mining to underground block caving—an advanced mining method that extends mine life while reducing environmental impact. This transformation represents one of Canada’s most significant underground mining developments and introduces new technical complexity, large-scale underground infrastructure, and opportunities to implement world-class systems and practices.

As Superintendent, Geology – Block Cave, you will lead geological activities that support the successful development and operation of Red Chris’ underground block cave.
This is a key leadership role responsible for delivering high-quality geological programs—including grade control, geological modelling, reconciliation, and geo-metallurgy—ensuring alignment with underground mine planning and operational requirements.
You will lead a multidisciplinary team and play a critical role in integrating geological data into decision-making, helping to optimize resource recovery, minimize risk, and support safe, efficient block cave operations.
- Lead and develop the Geology team, fostering a strong safety culture, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Design and implement grade control programs, including drilling, sampling, QA/QC, geological interpretation, and reporting aligned with block cave requirements.

Oversee the development and continuous update of 3D geological models to support underground mine planning.

Deliver mine-to-mill reconciliation processes from a geological perspective, ensuring integration with site-wide reconciliation systems.

Lead geo-metallurgical programs that support resource optimization and de-risking strategies.

Manage geological budgets, consultants, and contractors, ensuring delivery to scope, safety, and quality standards.

Oversee ore control activities and ensure accurate, timely geological data to support operations.

Support mineral resource and reserve definition and act as a Qualified Person where applicable.

Collaborate closely with mining, processing, technical services, and MRM teams to align geological inputs with operational plans.

Drive risk management and continuous improvement initiatives across geological systems, processes, and workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related discipline.

Extensive experience in mine geology, including grade control, geological modelling, and reconciliation.

Proven leadership experience managing and developing technical teams.

Strong expertise in drilling, sampling, QA/QC, geological interpretation, and reporting.

Experience with geo-metallurgy, risk management, and business improvement practices.

Experience in contractor and project management.

Strong collaboration and influencing skills across multidisciplinary teams.

Professional designation (P.Geo) and ability to act as a Qualified Person is preferred.
This role will support the Red Chris Block Cave Project located in northern British Columbia.
The position is fly-in fly-out and operates on a rotational schedule of 15 days on and 13 days off.
You will work in a remote, high-altitude mining environment, supporting the development and execution of a large-scale underground mining project.

The expected salary range for this role is CA$148,900 - 198,500 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
