Job Title: Maintenance Welder
Location: Fort McMurray, AB
Work Schedule: 7 on, 7 off, day shift
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Compensation: 68.00$/hr
SCOPE OF POSITION
The Maintenance Welder is responsible for supporting and assisting the Maintenance Team in operating the facility in an extremely safe and environmentally friendly manner, produce and ship on time, the highest quality products at the lowest possible costs, while practicing the ethics of Responsible CARE, Responsible CARE 14000, ISO and meeting all federal, provincial and local laws, regulations and security.
Safety / Health / Environment
- Maintain familiarity with Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures.

Immediately report all ES&H incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).

Complete all required ES&H training in a timely fashion.
-
Follow all Chemtrade facility and corporate ES&H procedures and practices.

Attend and actively participate in facility ES&H meetings and forums that will drive employee involvement.

Provide feedback and suggestions for ES&H program improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Pipe fitting layouts, assembles pipe supports
-
Selects type and size of pipe, and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, according to specifications.
-
Inspects work site to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes cut for pipe will not cause structural weakness.

Plans installation or repair to avoid obstructions and to avoid interfering with activities of other workers.

Cuts pipe, using saws, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, plasma cutter and pipe cutting machine.

Assembles and helps install a variety of metal and non-metal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, stainless steel, steel, Teflon, copper, and plastic.

Cutting and torching, sets up and operates arc welding machine that welds together parts of fabricated metal products, as specified by blueprints, layouts, welding procedures, and operating charts.

Welds flat, cylindrical, or irregular parts that may be clamped, tack-welded, or otherwise positioned.

Grind welded surfaces for penetrant test and for systems installation: Adjusts machine setup to vary size, location, and penetration of bead.

May install track template to weld irregularly shaped seams.

Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded.

Sets up, assembles, and tacks weld parts and finish welds.

Builds up worn or defective surfaces.

Use burning equipment to dismantle assemblies and to cut material to size and shape.

Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment based on observation of machinery and applying knowledge from past experience.

All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
-
Ticketed Red Seal Class A welder
-
High School Diploma
-
5+ years of relevant experience in an industrial or chemical environment highly preferred Proficient in Stick, MIG, TIG welding, PWP 7 and 10, stainless steel welding an asset

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, manufacturer’s literature, diagrams or schematics.

Ability to work off-shift requirements including: periodic emergency call out during off shift, including weekends and holidays.

Must be capable of performing tasks in varying temperatures while wearing personal protective equipment.
