Senior Backend Software Engineer (Remote – Canada)
CreditBook is a Canadian fintech SaaS company building mission-critical lending and credit systems. We're looking for a Backend Software Engineer to own service development primarily in TypeScript on serverless AWS, take ownership of our infrastructure-as-code, and help drive the serverless migration that's reshaping our platform.
This is not a pure cloud role and it's not a pure application role — it's the engineer who is comfortable shipping a TypeScript service on Lambda, writing the Serverless Framework config that deploys it, and dropping into the C# codebase when the work calls for it.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain backend services primarily in TypeScript / Node.js on AWS Lambda.
- Own infrastructure-as-code in Serverless Framework and Terraform — write it, review it, and raise the bar across the team.
- Read, extend, and occasionally write C# / .NET code on our existing Sloan platform, including porting logic forward into TypeScript as part of the serverless migration.
- Drive the serverless migration on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, EventBridge).
- Tighten our CI/CD pipelines (Bitbucket Pipelines) and our deployment safety story.
- Carry light SRE responsibility: monitoring, alerting, incident triage, and post-mortems on the systems you ship.
- Participate actively in PR reviews and uphold our quality bar (tests, security, performance).
- Work fluently with AI coding tools as part of your daily development practice.
Tech & Environment
- TypeScript / Node.js, C# / .NET, SQL Server, Postgres
- AWS (Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, CloudWatch)
- Serverless Framework and Terraform for IaC (CloudFormation in one product line)
- Bitbucket Pipelines, Snyk, SonarQube, Rovo Dev (AI-enforced PR review)
- SOC2 / security-minded development in a fintech context
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years of backend engineering experience shipping production services.
- Strong TypeScript / Node.js. You've built and operated production services in it.
- Comfortable reading C# / .NET and willing to write it when the work calls for it.
- Hands-on experience with Serverless Framework and Terraform on AWS. You've owned modules and stacks, not just edited them.
- Comfort with serverless architecture (Lambda, event-driven patterns) and SQL performance.
- Working familiarity with SRE practice — observability, SLIs/SLOs, incident response.
- Use AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, or similar) as a daily practice, not a curiosity.
- Direct communicator. Comfortable being accountable for what you ship.
Nice to Have
- Experience with monitoring tools (Datadog, Grafana)
- Familiarity with microservices architecture
- Exposure to CloudFormation.
- Experience leading a cloud or serverless migration.
- Fintech, lending, or payments experience.
- SOC2 or other compliance-driven environments.
Why This Role Matters
You'll be the engineer who owns the seam between our application code and the infrastructure it runs on, during the period when we're moving that infrastructure to serverless and consolidating it under Terraform. The work you do will directly shape how reliable, secure, and acquirer-ready our platform looks 12 months from now.
