Overview
A sole practitioner specializing in family law and estate litigation, and wills and probate is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented part-time or full-time Legal Assistant or Paralegal to join their practice. The position is part-time, 2 or 3 days per week, or full-time, for the right candidate with sufficient experience. The shifts are 8-hour shifts: 8:30am to 4:30am, 9am to 5pm, or 9:30am to 5:30pm. This role is pivotal in providing comprehensive support in managing cases, preparing legal documents, and ensuring efficient office operations. The office is centrally located in Burnaby, accessible by transit and skytrain, and is located in a new office building with amazing views.
Responsibilities
- Assist with case preparation, including organizing and managing files, and drafting documents as required.
- Manage client communications, including scheduling consultations, examinations for discovery, etc. and responding to inquiries.
- Preparing pleadings (i.e Notice of Family/Civil Claim, Responses to Family/Civil Claim, Financial Statements, Affidavits, Financial Statements, List of Documents, Orders), and file legal documents with courts and other relevant entities.
- Provide general administrative support, including office organization and maintaining confidential client information.
- Assist in the management of case deadlines and ensure timely follow-ups.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Legal Assistant, Paralegal or in a similar role within a legal setting.
- Legal Administrative Certificate, Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent qualifications.
- Strong academic record with excellent research and writing capabilities.
- Attention to detail and an ability to work under pressure with competing deadlines.
- Ability to use own initiative and make independent decisions.
- Must have own vehicle.
- Fluent in Vietnamese is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills.
Wage and Benefits
- $25 to $33 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
