bmg.GLASS + ALUMINUM INC. is seeking a full-time Estimator to support our growing business.
About the Role:
The primary role of the Estimator is to provide precise cost estimates for our projects, encompassing both materials and labor. The Estimator is responsible for compiling and managing a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, establishing unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors, and location-specific impacts.
Responsibilities:
- Generate material take-offs using company-provided software and manual methods when necessary.
- Prepare pre-qualification and tender submissions and present them to clients.
- Identify material and subcontractor requirements by reviewing blueprints, specifications, and related project documents.
- Calculate quantities using Excel spreadsheets.
- Identify potential conflicts within project documents.
- Ensure timely acquisition of pricing information for project closure.
- Communicate the scope of work to subcontractors and suppliers, and accurately interpret quotes to account for all costs and ensure no scope elements are omitted.
- Develop RFIs (Request for Information) along with classifications to ensure accurate pricing and product selection.
- Demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness to secure competitive quotes.
- Review design options and recommend the optimal solution based on cost, engineering, quality, and material availability.
- Maintain organized working document files as a reference for the estimating process, including up-to-date price information from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Create and submit estimate reports, quotation sheets, and bid forms to relevant parties.
- Present worksheets and related take-off forms/submittals in a comprehensible manner for review by others.
- Eliminate any scope not explicitly required by bid documents, ensuring transparency in the tendered price.
- Attend tender site visits and collaborate with clients during the tendering phase to determine the scope of work and the necessary estimate components.
- Foster strong industry relationships that may lead to business opportunities.
- Maintain consistent communication with the estimating team to exchange knowledge and information.
- Assemble a turnover package for handover to the Project Management team.
Requirement:
- Profound understanding of blueprints and proficiency in using PDF software for annotating drawings for stakeholders.
- Strong client-facing and internal communication skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Thorough organizational skills, including attention to detail and multitasking proficiency.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet software and technical documentation (blueprints/specs).
- Familiarity with Curtain Wall and Interior Glazing systems.
- Robust organizational and time management capabilities.
- Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Above-average mathematical skills.
- Education: A college or post-graduate degree, preferably in construction engineering technology or Architectural Technology, would be advantageous.
