Overview
We are searching for a Senior Mechanical/Vehicle Systems Engineer to support equipment life-cycle management within the Directorate of Support Vehicles Program Management (DSVPM) of the Department of National Defence (DND). This client requires general Fleet Acquisition Engineering support for the Light Utility Vehicle (LUV) Project, through an active contract that will remain valid until at least next Summer, likely with further contracts to follow. Please note that the posted salary range applies only to prospective employees. Different arrangements can be made for independent contractors.
Duties
- Providing general Consulting Services, Investigation and Design Analysis Support to DND Project Manager(s) serving Canadian Forces (CF) Customers
- Providing general Fleet Acquisition Engineering Support, including:
- i. Carrying out vehicle and equipment concept and development studies in support of new customer requirements and initiatives;
- ii. Carrying out requirements analysis and studies on proposed new vehicles and equipment;
- iii. Carrying out vehicle and equipment design and engineering studies on new vehicle components;
- iv. Researching regulatory, trade standards, and military interoperability standards, and associated engineering issue to ensure that the most up to date information is available to equipment teams;
- v. Estimating associated budgeting requirements for vehicle upgrades
- vi. Liaising with Defence Contractors and Industry regarding vehicle applications of technological innovations;
- vii. Analyzing procurement strategies for vehicle replacement;
- viii. Writing Specifications and Purchase Descriptions for new equipment for Project Manager review;
- ix. Applying project management techniques (scheduling and funding options) to acquisition activities;
- x. Developing Technical and Integrated Logistics Support(ILS) Requirements and Documentation such as Equipment Logistics Directives (ELD);
- xi. Determining and co-ordinating Tests, and Evaluations for vehicles and vehicle acquisitions;
- xii. Providing engineering management support to major vehicle contracts;
- xiii. Providing engineering support to Federal Environmental Initiatives, including Paris Accord and Alternative Transportation Fuel (ATF) Vehicle initiatives;
- xiv. Participating in Environmental lmpact Assessments; and
- xv. Providing support to Fleet Remarketing initiatives regarding regulatory/engineering issues relative to vehicles and equipment being safely offered for sale to the public or for destruction/disposal
Qualifications
- Must have at least an undergraduate degree in Engineering
- At least 5 years of recent experience performing the following: A) Automotive OR mechanical OR design engineering AND B) Managing, manipulating and analyzing equipment technical performance and related management data to improve performance standards
- At least 5 years of recent experience providing concept development and design engineering support services on vehicles or vehicle-related equipment
- At least 3 years of recent experience in the development or interpretation of specifications for vehicles or vehicle-related equipment
Pay: $70.00-$81.20 per hour
