Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to join our manufacturing facility. The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing production and facility equipment to ensure efficient and reliable operations. This role requires both electrical and mechanical expertise, with the ability to diagnose and repair complex systems in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who takes initiative, demonstrates strong technical skills, and contributes to a culture of food safety and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily equipment setup, teardown, inspection, and maintenance to ensure proper functionality.
- Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) according to schedule and update maintenance logs accordingly.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, including motors, gearboxes, pumps, and conveyors.
- Troubleshoot and maintain PLC systems, AC/DC motors, HVAC systems, air compressors, and conveyors.
- Support production by minimizing downtime and responding quickly to breakdowns or malfunctions.
- Collaborate with Quality Control and Production teams to ensure compliance with HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, and CCPs
- Participate in the development and implementation of equipment and process improvements.
- Follow and promote all Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Environmental standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company policies.
- Provide feedback and recommendations on equipment reliability, process optimization, and safety improvements.
- Assist in training operators and maintenance apprentices as required.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Trade Certification or equivalent experience as a Maintenance Mechanic, Millwright, or Industrial Electrician (Journeyperson status an asset).
- Considered an asset. Not required. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in maintenance within a food processing or manufacturing environment (federally inspected facility preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including troubleshooting PLCs, sensors, and control circuits.
- Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical drive systems.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices, including HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, and CCPs.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently under minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written English).
- Positive attitude, reliability, and commitment to continuous learning.
- Ability to work Monday to Friday with flexibility for overtime or weekend maintenance projects when required.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs during maintenance tasks.
- Exposure to cold, humid, and warm production environments.
- Use of PPE including gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and protective clothing as required.
