Job description:
The Montessori Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a prepared Montessori environment that supports each child’s independence, curiosity, and overall development. This role focuses on delivering high-quality Montessori programming while fostering a calm, respectful, and nurturing classroom culture for children and families.
Program and Classroom Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a prepared classroom environment that supports the developmental needs of each child, including the organization and care of Montessori materials.
- Design and implement engaging individual and group activities that support social, emotional, and academic growth.
- Deliver Montessori lessons across all curriculum areas, including Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Culture.
- Promote independence by encouraging self-directed work, responsibility, and collaborative learning experiences.
- Model and teach care of self, care of the environment, and respect for others.
- Adapt lessons and activities to support children with varying learning styles, backgrounds, and special needs.
- Observe children regularly and maintain accurate records of progress, development, and individualized lesson plans.
- Follow the school’s behaviour management guidelines to support a positive, respectful learning environment.
Health, Safety, and Daily Care
- Assist with diapering and toileting routines in a respectful and developmentally appropriate manner.
- Ensure classrooms and washrooms are clean, safe, and organized on a daily basis.
- Implement health and safety practices using required tools such as daily observation forms, sanitation logs, medication records, and environmental assessments.
- Adhere strictly to all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Family and Community Engagement
- Build positive, professional relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Conduct two parent-teacher conferences per year, with additional meetings as required.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with families regarding children’s progress and classroom experiences.
- Participate in school events, open houses, and programs as required.
Professional Expectations and Development
- Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality at all times.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, training, and workshops to remain current with Montessori best practices and early childhood education standards.
Qualifications and Mandatory Requirements
- A valid MACTE-accredited or AMI Montessori teaching certification is required.
- An Early Childhood Education Diploma or Degree is considered an asset.
- Preference will be given to candidates registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators or holding the RECE designation prior to employment.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Up-to-date immunization records and current TB screening.
- A clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
