Position Summary:
The Senior Accounting Technician (“SAT”) position plays a critical role to the success of balncd. The SAT is responsible for the monthly tasks, self-reviews and period end reporting for clients. This includes Accounting/Bookkeeping, Payroll, Accrual entries, and Tax Filings, etc. as defined by the client relationship.
The SAT works under the direction and close supervision of, and reports to, her/his assigned Accounting Team Lead (“ATL”). She/He is responsible for adhering to balncd policies & procedures (internal and related to clients).
Primary Responsibilities:
Accounting/Bookkeeping (as defined by client engagement) - Operational/Technical
- Review bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of any uncleared items
- Review Loans to ensure payments have been split into principal and interest portions
- Prepares and files GST/PST: ensure reasonability of GST/PST for the period, ensure filing by due date
- Accounts Receivable: review to ensure all payments have been applied accordingly and look for duplicates
- Accounts Payable: review to ensure that all payments have been processed and watch for duplicates
- Make monthly accrual entries for capital asset amortization, prepaid expenses, payroll accrual etc.
- Prepares month end reporting, and period end interim / year-end financial statements
- Other tasks, as assigned by ATL
- Be aware of budgeted time for clients and track detail time records for each client
- Approximately 80% of your time will be client work and 20% administrative
Client Relationship
- Participates in the onboarding process for new clients
- Acts as a secondary contact for clients. Builds strong rapport/relationship with key client contact as needed
- Develops a deep knowledge and understanding of client’s business and their operations
- Provides timely responses to client queries when assigned by ATL (within 24-48 hours)
- Identifies changes to client’s business and communicates additional opportunities to add value to ATL

- Demonstrates and maintains a strong knowledge of QuickBooks Online and all partner applications
- Willing to accept training and upgrade skills as requested
- Ability to assist fellow staff members with various issues in a patient and clear manner.
Qualifications:
- Education
- Grade 12 Diploma
- QuickBooks Online Basic and Advanced ProAdvisor Certification earned
- Enrollment in Certified Professional Bookkeeper Program, Level 3 or Certification
Experience
- 3+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or a similar role
- Strong knowledge of month-end close procedures, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Experience with payroll processing (Payworks preferred) and Federal/Provincial tax filings
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills to interact with clients and internal teams
