Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician to join our healthcare team. The Optician will play a vital role in assisting patients with selecting eyewear, fitting glasses, and providing exceptional customer service. This position requires a strong understanding of optical products, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced retail environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in optical settings and be committed to helping patients achieve optimal vision care.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting eyeglasses and contact lenses that meet their prescriptions and personal preferences
- Take precise measurements for lens fitting, including pupillary distance and frame sizing
- Provide professional guidance on lens options, coatings, and frame styles to enhance patient satisfaction
- Verify prescriptions and ensure proper documentation for eyewear orders
- Operate optical laboratory equipment for lens cutting and edging when necessary
- Maintain accurate records of patient interactions, sales, and inventory
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care and usage instructions
- Collaborate with optometrists and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care
- Keep the optical area clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to vision care and ophthalmic products
- Laboratory experience with lens cutting, edging, or similar optical equipment is highly desirable
- Prior optical experience or retail sales background preferred; excellent sales skills are a plus
- Familiarity with retail management systems such as Epic or similar platforms is advantageous
- Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations
- Attention to detail for accurate measurements and documentation
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and accuracy
- Knowledge of current eyewear trends and product offerings is beneficial
