The Position:
The Registered Practical Nurse will promote a resident focused, goal-oriented approach to care, nurturing a home like environment to the residents and families at Margaret’s Place Hospice, that is in keeping with the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph’s Villa/SJHS.
We are currently looking for casual RPNs to join our team at Margaret’s Place Hospice! The ideal candidate would be available to work a minimum of 1 shift every 60 days. The schedule for this position is a 12 hour shift and would include weekends as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Give direction for all aspects of Residents care, providing oversight to other members of the care team in accordance with the Regulated health Professional Act and CNO Practice Standards
- Recognize, assess and respond to Resident Health Status changes
- Provide leadership to the team, working collaboratively to assess workload, and to assign caseload and priorities each shift
- Demonstrate an understanding of Cultural Safety and Humility and apply these approaches to end of life care
- Perform physical, psychosocial, spiritual and emotional assessment of Residents and families
- Respond to ethical issues using ethical framework, anticipating and addressing ethical issues that may be encountered when caring for individuals with life-limiting conditions
- Administer medication and treatments as required/ordered, monitor for effectiveness and side effects according to legislative and regulative requirements and best practice.
- Be aware of the limits of individual competencies and scope of practice, consulting with RN when delivery of care exceeds scope
All duties will be carried out in accordance with the College of Nurses Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
· Graduate of an accredited college nursing program is required
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Certificate in Fundamentals of Palliative Care or equivalent education, or willingness to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
- CAPCE training preferred
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Compassion and genuine interest in providing end- of-life care
- Demonstrated expertise in Pain & Symptom Management
- Demonstrated confidence working autonomously and collaboratively with members of the interdisciplinary team
- Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to use judgement to assess and intervene in critical situations
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as Registered Practical Nurse (RPN)
- Minimum 1 years’ experience in end-of-life care (preferably in a Hospice or LTC setting)
