Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and dependable Truck Owner Operator specialized in hauling wood chips to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating heavy-duty trucks designed for transporting wood chips from mobile chippers to the Canadian Kraft Paper mill in The Pas. Your expertise will ensure timely deliveries, adherence to safety standards, and efficient maintenance of equipment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors while contributing to sustainable forest management.
Responsibilities
- Own/Operate heavy-duty trucks equipped for hauling wood chips, ensuring safe and efficient transportation across various terrains.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections using mechanical knowledge and power tools to verify truck safety and readiness before each haul.
- Load and unload wood chips using appropriate equipment, ensuring proper handling and securement during transit.
- Maintain accurate logs of trips, cargo details, and maintenance activities, utilizing Geotab technology
- We can provide a trailer at cost or you can utilize your own trailer.
- Perform routine maintenance on trailers.
- Follow all safety protocols, including compliance with transportation regulations and environmental guidelines related to forestry operations.
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate schedules, optimize routes, and ensure timely deliveries to mill site.
Requirements
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience with trucks used for hauling bulk materials such as wood chips.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshoot issues independently.
- Familiarity with Geotab technology for route planning or site mapping is a plus.
- Knowledge of safety standards related to heavy equipment operation, transportation regulations, and environmental practices.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
