Our client, is seeking a skilled SMPP Quality Controller to support a major bulk material handling project. This role focuses on ensuring structural and mechanical installations meet strict quality standards during fabrication, construction, and commissioning. You’ll work closely with field teams, inspectors, and project stakeholders to drive quality compliance across a complex industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Execute and maintain project quality plans and inspection/test protocols across SMPP scopes
- Inspect structural steel, mechanical systems, conveyors, and bulk handling equipment during installation
- Verify compliance with drawings, specifications, codes, and approved procedures
- Review welding documentation, material certifications, and NDE reports for accuracy and completeness
- Monitor subcontractor quality performance and participate in inspections, hold points, and testing
- Track defects, issue non-conformance reports, and support corrective action processes
- Compile and maintain quality documentation for turnover, including inspection records and test packages
- Coordinate with project teams, client representatives, and third-party inspectors during audits and reviews
Requirements
- 5+ years of QA/QC experience within SMPP or heavy industrial construction
- Strong background in structural steel fabrication and installation quality oversight
- Familiarity with welding standards (CSA, AWS) and inspection documentation (WPS, PQRs, NDE)
- Experience inspecting mechanical systems such as conveyors, rotating equipment, or material handling assets
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Knowledge of quality systems, including ISO-aligned processes and material traceability
- Proficiency with digital QA/QC tools and Microsoft Office
Nice-to-Have
- Experience in mining, ports, or bulk material handling facilities
- Exposure to brownfield or retrofit construction projects
- Involvement in pre-commissioning or mechanical completion stages
Contract Details
- Project-based (4-month contract)
- Site-based role in Delta, BC
- Work aligned to construction schedules; extended hours may be required during peak phases
Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and training.
