We are seeking a hands-on Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join our Maintenance team. This role supports the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of instrumentation, SCADA systems, automation infrastructure, and related control systems that support district operations.
As part of the Maintenance team, you will play an important role in ensuring the reliability of operational systems across the district, helping to minimize downtime, improve system performance, and support the delivery of water to our customers.
We recognize that strong technical professionals come from a variety of backgrounds. Candidates may have gained their experience through trades, technical diploma programs, power engineering, industrial maintenance, utilities, agriculture, manufacturing, municipal infrastructure, or other related industries. What matters most is practical experience, sound technical knowledge, and strong troubleshooting skills.
What this Role is Responsible for:
SCADA & Automation Support
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and support SCADA systems and automation infrastructure
- Assist with system monitoring, configuration, and optimization
- Support communication systems between field equipment and control platforms
- Diagnose and resolve automation and control system issues
Instrumentation & Control Systems
- Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair instrumentation equipment
- Troubleshoot sensors, transmitters, control devices, and related systems
- Support preventative maintenance activities for instrumentation assets
- Ensure reliable operation of instrumentation and control systems
Electrical Systems Support
- Troubleshoot and support electrical control systems related to operations
- Assist with field wiring, panel inspections, and control system repairs
- Ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with applicable standards
Operational & Maintenance Support
- Respond to operational issues requiring instrumentation, automation, or control system expertise
- Work closely with Operations and Maintenance teams to support system reliability
- Participate in on-call and emergency response activities as required
- Contribute to reducing downtime and improving system performance
Continuous Improvement
- Support preventative maintenance programs
- Assist with documenting maintenance activities, procedures, and system updates
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability and operational efficiency
- Provide technical input on system upgrades and improvement projects
What you Bring:
Required
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with industrial electrical, instrumentation, automation, SCADA, control systems, or related technical environments
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and maintaining industrial or operational systems
- Strong understanding of electrical and control system fundamentals
- Technical knowledge gained through a combination of work experience, trade certification, technical training, post-secondary education, and/or equivalent practical experience
- Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues in live operational environments
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Valid driver's licence
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
Assets
Experience with:
- SCADA systems and industrial communications
- PLCs and control systems
- VTScada or similar SCADA platforms
Experience in utilities, irrigation, water/wastewater, agriculture, manufacturing, industrial operations, or municipal infrastructure environments
Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician, Journeyperson Electrician, Power Engineering certification, Engineering Technology diploma, or other relevant technical education
Pay: From $90,000.00 per year
