Accounting Specialist

We are seeking an experienced, highly organized Accounting Specialist to oversee the accounting functions of our busy and growing collision repair facility.
This is a hands-on position for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has a strong understanding of cost accounting, and takes pride in maintaining accurate financial records while supporting the overall success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll support.
- Oversee accounts receivable collections, ensuring timely follow-up on outstanding balances while maintaining positive customer and insurance partner relationships.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and reports.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain accurate job costing and inventory records.
- Analyze labour, materials, and overhead costs to ensure accurate cost accounting and profitability reporting.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and government reporting requirements.
- Work closely with ownership and the management team to provide financial analysis and recommendations that improve operational efficiency and profitability.
- Coordinate with external accountants during year-end and tax preparation.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business administration/accounting.
- CPA designation is considered an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the automotive, collision repair, or manufacturing industry.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting and job costing principles.
- Experience managing accounts receivable and collections.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting software (Quickbooks) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with all departments.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
