Overview
Coast Karma Academy is seeking two passionate and skilled Classroom Teachers to join our team and support our incredible learners in a dynamic, inclusive, and highly individualized learning environment.
We are currently hiring for:
- Primary Classroom Teacher (approximately K–3)
- Intermediate Classroom Teacher (approximately Grades 6–9)
Coast Karma Academy is a specialized K–Grade 9 independent school committed to empowering autistic and neurodiverse learners through evidence-informed practices, mindful education, creative exploration, and personal growth. We provide a strengths-based learning environment where students are supported to discover their unique abilities, build confidence, and develop meaningful connections with themselves and the world around them.
Our classrooms are intentional, flexible, and student-centred. Teachers at Coast Karma work collaboratively with support staff, families, and colleagues to create learning experiences that meet students where they are and help them thrive.
Qualifications
The successful candidates will:
- Hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate
- Have experience or a willingness to supporting students with diverse learning profiles, including autistic and neurodiverse learners
- Demonstrate a commitment to strengths-based, student-centred education
- Be adaptable, creative, and willing to tailor instruction to meet individual student needs
- Have strong communication and collaboration skills
- Be passionate about building meaningful relationships with students and families
- Value teamwork, flexibility, and continuous learning
- Experience with individualized education plans (IEPs), differentiated instruction, and neuro-affirming practices is an asset.
Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidates will:
- Serve as the lead teacher within their classroom.
- Plan and deliver instruction across core subject areas aligned with the BC Curriculum.
- Design and implement engaging, differentiated lessons and assessments.
- Create a predictable, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
- Support students academically, socially, and emotionally through individualized approaches.
- Use strengths-based strategies to encourage independence, confidence, and skill development.
- Monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback.
- Collaborate with Educational Assistants, Behaviour Interventionists, consultants, colleagues, and families.
- Participate in professional development and contribute to a positive, calm, and collaborative school culture.
Classroom assignments will be determined based on candidate experience, strengths, and the needs of our learners.
Please note that this is not a traditional classroom setting. It is a place where connection, adaptability, and thoughtful instruction matter just as much as curriculum delivery.
Pay: $65,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
