You Like Making Things. We Like That About You.
At Wedlock Paper Converters, we manufacture flexible packaging that ends up on shelves across North America. Every bag that rolls off our floor is a product our team built and we take that seriously. We’re looking for a Bag Machine Operator to join our Conversion Department: someone hands-on, mechanically sharp, and ready to grow.
This role has a built-in career ladder, Level One through Level Three, so whether you’re new to bag machines or a seasoned operator, there’s a place for you here and a clear path forward.
Who We Are
Wedlock Paper Converters Ltd. is a Mississauga-based manufacturer specializing in flexible packaging and paper converting. We operate to AIB and Health & Safety standards, and our Conversion Department runs Weber and Garant bag-making machines that require real skill to operate well.
The Role — A Career That Grows With You
Our Bag Machine Operators advance through three skill levels. Here’s what each one looks like:
Level One — Get Running
- Start and stop the machine safely and correctly
- Load paper rolls and prepare the next roll in advance
- Fill the glue pot and keep things moving
- Use shopfloor systems (Vorne) to track production
- Hit daily production targets and complete shift reports
- Clean the machine at end of shift — no exceptions
Level Two — Get Technical
Everything in Level One, plus:
- Fix round bottoms, adjust slit positions, change bottom pasters
- Change coarse/fine knives and position rolls for seam alignment
- Web paper to machine and adjust side gussets
- Troubleshoot missing adhesive issues on the bag
Level Three — Own the Setup
Everything in Levels One and Two, plus:
- Set up new jobs from scratch — bag length, machine timing, unwind centering
- Install and position thumb notch die cutters, slitting knives, and cross pasting cylinders
- Former replacement and table centering adjustments
- Set cut-off length/speed and configure transport and pre-creasing units
- Mount folding knives, horn assemblies, and select correct bottom size cams
What You Bring to the Table
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years in a manufacturing environment (preferred, not a dealbreaker if you’re mechanically strong)
- Good mechanical aptitude: comfortable with allen keys, wrenches, scrapers, and safety knives
- Able to stand for up to 12 hours and lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Strong attention to quality: you notice when something’s off before it becomes a problem
- Team player who can also work independently and manage their time
- Knowledge of Health & Safety standards
- English communication skills (reading, writing, and conversation)
The Real Talk: What This Job Is Like
- You'll work shifts (Days (Mon - Fri) 7AM - 3PM, Afternoons (Mon - Fri) 3PM to 11PM, Midnights (Sun - Thurs) 11PM - 7AM)
- The floor is fact-paced and you’ll be on your feet for your full shift: this is a physical, hands-on role
- The environment includes machine noise, paper dust, and variable temperatures: PPE is provided
- CSA-approved safety footwear is required from day one
- Occasional overtime happens and we try to be fair about it
- The work is repetitive in the best way: the more you know the machine, the better you get
Why Wedlock?
We’re a tight-knit operation where skilled operators are genuinely valued. The Level One to Level Three structure means your expertise is recognized and rewarded as you grow. If you’re the type who takes pride in running a machine well, this is the right place to do it.
