HWN Energy, Ltd. is currently seeking to fill the following position:
Job Title: Contract Operator
Position Type: Camp Position
Schedule: 8 days on / 6 days off (8-6 rotation)
Contract Operators, with a focus on plant operations, are expected to provide essential daily support for HWN well sites or facilities in a safe and efficient manner. They are required to be enrolled in HWN Competency CMDS Safety Program and will be asked to handle other field duties as required by Lead Operators. These duties may include smaller project supervision, new well commissioning, volume variances, etc. The position requires that operators spend the majority of their time at the facility. This is a camp-based position operating 8 days on / 6 days off rotation. Position is based out of the North Simonette operational area and will be supported through our local Whitecourt office.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Operate and monitor the North Simonette gas plant and battery facilities, including stabilizers, sour oil treating units, compression, glycol dehydration systems, and water injection operations.
- Monitor and operate SCADA systems for remote well and facility surveillance; respond to alarms and production anomalies in a timely and safe manner.
- Perform routine inspection, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on plant and battery equipment including compressors, pumps, separators, treaters, tanks, and associated instrumentation and controls.
- Manage water injection system operations including pump monitoring, injection rate optimization, water quality sampling, and disposal compliance.
- Ensure safe handling, monitoring, and treatment of sour (H2S-containing) production streams in accordance with HWN HSE standards and AER regulations.
- Conduct safe and environmentally responsible day to day field production operations for HWN field properties and enter daily production reporting, optimization of producing wells & facilities to maximize production.
- Identify and implement methods to lower operating and capital costs.
- Identify and implement methods to improve wellsite and facilities maintenance and reduce maintenance costs.
- Participate and work to improve on HWN’s HSE policies/Culture. Support and attend safety meetings.
- Perform as a field representative for all HWN operations in the field with emphasis on being a good neighbor.
- Participation in CMDS training to ensure competency and signed off on all standard operating procedures (SOP);
- Provide local supervision for projects in the Lead Operator’s absence;
- Assist with Management of Change Requests (MOC);
- Conduct Hazard Identifications on HWN Energy Ltd. sites and audits on 3rd party contractors;
- Assist in safety audits.
- Liaison with other groups in the company including accounting, drilling and completions engineering to plan, execute and bring wells on stream in the safest, timely and economic manner.
- Ensure dealings with contractors and joint venture partners are handled in a professional, ethical, and effective manner ensuring contractor & service work is conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible and is consistent with HWN’s HS&E requirements.
- Other tasks that may be assigned to you by the Field Superintendent, Field Foreman, or Area Lead Operator.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license;
- Minimum 2-3 year’s operation experience and completion of a General Educational Development (grade 12) is required.
- GPO A-D or PFO A-D (previously Solis 1, 2, 3) or a Trades ticket or Tech diploma is also preferred.
- 4th class Power Engineer preferred; electrical or instrumentation trades ticket considered a strong asset;
- Operator Level 1 or 2, currently working in a CMDS safety program
- Candidates would ideally have Operator experience in a similar work environment (both in a plant or in the field);
- Hands-on experience operating gas plant and battery facilities, including stabilizers, sour oil treating, compression, glycol dehydration, and water injection systems is strongly preferred;
- Experience with SCADA systems for facility monitoring, alarm response, and production data management;
- Experience with well site battery operations including tank gauging, fluid transfers, emulsion treating, and production measurement;
- Familiarity with H2S and sour service environments, including use of gas detection equipment, rescue procedures, and sour gas safety protocols;
- Experience with reciprocating and centrifugal compressor operation, including start-up, shutdown, and basic troubleshooting of compression equipment;
- Understanding of gas sales specifications and dehydration performance targets, including TEG system operation and troubleshooting;
- Strong attention to safety performance and known for leading by example;
- Good understanding of the safety and regulatory compliance requirements;
- Must be a good communicator with strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and in team settings;
- Strong computer skills; including Microsoft Office, Scada and PVR;
