SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Bus Maintenance Coordinator, the Fleet & Facilities Cleaner (FFC) is responsible for ensuring that all transit vehicles and facilities are clean, safe, and ready for service each day. This position performs overnight cleaning, light maintenance, fueling, and basic inspections of the fleet, as well as routine building maintenance tasks, to support reliable operations and a positive rider experience. The FFC must also be capable of safely moving buses around the property and, if required, driving them to service locations or maintenance facilities. This position plays an essential role in maintaining health, safety, and appearance standards while minimizing service disruptions. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Clean and sanitize the interior of buses, including floors, seats, windows, driver areas, and high-touch surfaces, in accordance with established standards.
2) Clean, wash, rinse, and detail the exterior of buses as required to maintain a clean, professional, and presentable appearance.
3) Clean, wash, and maintain the appearance of all company service vehicles to ensure presentable, and ready for daily operation.
4) Sweep, mop, and disinfect floors in transit facilities, staff areas, and restrooms to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
5) Empty and dispose of trash and recycling from buses, shops, and common areas.
6) Fuel buses and check fluid levels (oil, coolant, washer fluid) to ensure they are ready for service.
7) Conduct basic pre-service inspections (e.g., tires, lights, wipers) and report any defects or concerns to maintenance staff.
8) Safely move buses in and out of garage bays, around the yard, or to other locations as required.
9) Perform light building maintenance such as changing light bulbs, minor plumbing or carpentry repairs, clearing snow/ice from walkways, and general upkeep of the facility.
10) Inspect the building and property nightly, reporting any damage, safety hazards, or maintenance concerns to management.
11) Restock buses and facility supplies, ensuring inventory is maintained and organized.
12) Assist maintenance staff with shop organization, parts handling, and other support tasks.
13) Document all work performed and submit reports or checklists at the end of each shift.
14) Adhere to all workplace safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
15) Support special projects, deep cleaning, repairs (painting, etc.) or emergency response tasks as directed by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
1) High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
2) Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, or maintenance roles considered an asset.
3) Basic mechanical and building maintenance skills, including the use of hand and power tools.
4) Ability to safely operate transit vehicles and hold, or be willing to obtain, a valid Class 2 driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
5) Ability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
6) Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness.
7) Reliable, punctual, and able to follow established schedules and procedures.
8) First Aid and CPR/AED certificate – or be able to achieve within 6-months of hire;

WORKING CONDITIONS
1) This is an on-site, office-based position located at 29 Crescent Drive, New Minas, NS
2) Regular hours of work are Monday – Friday, 6:30pm – 3:00am.
3) Work is performed in bus garages, maintenance shops, and transit facilities, with occasional outdoor exposure in all weather conditions.
4) Requires standing, bending, knee ling, and lifting up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
5) Work environment may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, vehicle exhaust, noise, and weather conditions.
6) Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals, operating equipment, or working in shop areas.
