Live-In Caregiver for Elderly Couple with Dementia
- Prefer candidates with previous live-in experience and senior dementia care to help elderly couple in their mid-80s with most ADLs in their home
- Schedule is primarily night/early morning shifts. Would be off during the day. Candidate should be comfortable with being on call and waking up at night to assist with toileting and mobility. Daytime hours are rest period after night shifts.
- Experienced HCA with certificate or has experience with medication management, transfer/mobility, toileting assistance, showering, oral care
- Laundry, light housekeeping and meal prep.
- Very calm, patient and respectful personality is a MUST.
- MUST have recent references.
- Weekly salary, plus room and board included.
Duties
- Provide assistance with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Administer medications as prescribed and monitor clients for any side effects or changes in condition.
- Offer companionship and emotional support to enhance the quality of life for clients.
- Assist with mobility and transfers, including heavy lifting when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by performing light housekeeping tasks.
- Document care provided and report any changes in client health or behavior to family members or healthcare professionals.
- Support clients with dementia care by employing effective communication techniques and engaging them in meaningful activities.
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers involved in the client's care plan.
Skills
- Proven experience in caregiving, particularly in senior care settings such as assisted living or nursing homes.
- Knowledge of medication administration protocols and safety practices.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and effectively when assisting clients with mobility challenges.
- Ability to use behavioural intervention techniques, re-approaching and re-directing
- Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and their families.
- Excellent cleaning skills to maintain a hygienic living space for clients.
- Familiarity with patient care techniques tailored to individual needs, especially for those suffering from dementia.
