Heavy Equipment Operator (Backhoe Operator)

ZimiMax Pro Construction Inc. is seeking an experienced and reliable Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing civil construction team specializing in watermain, sewer, storm, and municipal infrastructure projects throughout the GTA. This position is unionized under the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 793 collective agreement and includes competitive wages, pension, and benefits.
We are looking for an operator with strong experience operating backhoes in live municipal environments, trenching operations, utility installations, and road restoration work.
Responsibilities
- Operate backhoe equipment safely and efficiently on construction sites
- Perform excavation for watermain, sewer, storm, and utility installations
- Work closely with pipe crews, foremen, and site supervisors
- Read and follow grade stakes, locates, and site drawings
- Complete daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks
- Maintain safe trenching and excavation practices
- Assist with site cleanup and general construction activities as required
- Follow all company safety policies and Ontario construction regulations
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating backhoes in civil construction
- Experience with sewer, watermain, and storm infrastructure projects preferred
- Valid Ontario driver’s license (DZ license considered an asset)
- Ability to work in fast-paced construction environments
- Strong understanding of safe excavation practices and utility awareness
- Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Ability to work occasional weekends when required
- Valid working at heights certificate
Assets
- Experience operating additional heavy equipment (excavator, loader, skid steer, dozer, etc.)
- Confined Space certification
- Valid health and safety training certificates
- Union experience considered an asset
