Course Number-Section and Title: EDEM 503 Research Seminar in Indigenous Studies
Course Description: Provides an opportunity for a more substantial and in depth analysis of a topic of interest in Indigenous education. Strengthens students critical and research skills and deepens their understanding of Indigenous issues. Each step of the research is investigated in the seminar as well as through relevant scholarly readings. The culminating exercise will be the presentation of the research in a panel forum.

Experience
Expert knowledge of course content as outlined in the course description
Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP) and the curriculum of the partnering school board with whom this course is being giving in collaboration.
Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l’Éducation
Knowledge of the impact of colonialism on Indigenous communities and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.
Experience as a teacher, administrator, or consultant in the partnering school system for which this course is being delivered.
Experience teaching in the Quebec elementary school system
Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers.
Previous successful experience teaching similar courses in Indigenous communities.
Experience developing curriculum, instructional approaches and/or policy grounded in Indigenous knowledge and pedagogies.
Other
Adherence to evolving program requirements concerning course content and program-developed competencies; course content and references must reflect the most current advances in the field.
The course instructor is expected to demonstrate capacity and willingness to modify the course to the educational, social, and cultural context of the community in which it is being delivered.
Availability to participate in course coordination and planning activities prior to the course start date (approximately two weeks in advance; online format).
Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with Indigenous issues in First Nations and Inuit contexts, for example through prior teaching, community engagement, or relevant academic or professional work.
