Inspire, lead, and help children grow where your work truly matters.
Mahmowenchike Family Development Centre is looking for one Early Childhood Educator who brings equal parts skill, heart, and professionalism to their work. If you’re committed to building meaningful relationships, designing purposeful learning experiences, and supporting children as they develop confidence and identity, you’ll feel right at home here.
Who We Are
Across our three Thunder Bay locations in St. Vincent, St. Ann, and St. Elizabeth schools, we operate as one organization and one team. Our programs are rooted in respect, inclusion, and the belief that early learning shapes who children become. We expect high standards of practice from one another and offer the support needed to meet them. You won’t be left to figure things out alone; you’ll work with colleagues who take quality seriously and show up for each other.
The Opportunity
We’re hiring one full-time permanent Early Childhood Educator with Mahmowenchike Family Development Centre. Mahmowenchike educators are hired as part of our broader educator team and may be placed at any of our three licensed sites (St. Vincent, St. Ann, or St. Elizabeth) based on organizational need. Placement decisions rest with the organization and may change over time, as outlined in our employment agreements.
That said, we want to be upfront: the current vacancy that has prompted this posting is in our school age program at our St. Ann location (before-and-after school care during the school year, full-day care during the summer months/March Break/PD days).
This position is Monday to Friday and aligned with our operating hours of 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The role is full-time at 8 hours per day, based on program needs.
What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who can balance warmth with professionalism and creativity with accountability. Successful candidates will have:
- A Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education
- Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- Applicants working toward RECE designation are welcome to apply; preference will be given to qualified candidates
- Strong understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act and How Does Learning Happen?
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification
- A current Vulnerable Sector Check (within 6 months)
- Up-to-date immunizations
- Awareness of Anishinaabemowin language, teachings, and culture is a strong asset
- The ability to design meaningful, developmentally appropriate experiences
- Consistency, reliability, and a commitment to high-quality practice
- A collaborative mindset - you'll be part of a team, not working in isolation
What We Offer
We set clear expectations and provide the support needed to meet them. Employees receive:
- Ongoing paid professional development opportunities
- A 10% discount on child care fees
- A workplace culture rooted in collaboration, accountability, and respect
- Paid personal days accrued monthly
- Group benefits including life, disability, and extended health care
- Group RRSP program with employer contributions (participation optional)

This might be a photo of an environment you set up, a learning story, a reflection on your practice, or something we haven't thought of - there is no prescribed format, and what you choose is part of what we're curious about.
