JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Head Chef, assist in the preparation and cooking of two complete meals and two snacks per day. Perform other kitchen duties such as washing dishes, serving, and cleaning.
DUTIES:
- Prepare food as directed by the Head Chef, completing the task list for that day.
- Be well-presented at all times; wear a clean uniform and apron.
- Assist with the plating of meals and snacks.
- Wash tableware efficiently and effectively during meal service.
- Wash kitchen pots/utensils and ensure their proper storage.
- Wash and store any other flatware as required
- Deliver meal service for tenants of the Kiwanis Village.
- Ensure that all recycling is taken to the recycling area at the end of the day.
- Ensure all garbage is taken out at the end of the day.
- Ensure the kitchen floor and all work surfaces are thoroughly cleaned before leaving.
- Assist in ensuring a high level of health and safety, cleanliness and food hygiene and to ensure that safe working practices are followed.
- Assist in stock taking and storage of stock, including checking deliveries.
- Assist in the serving of meals to tenants when needed.
- Participate in staff meeting and staff training where applicable.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- High school graduation preferred.
- A minimum of one year of related experience preferred, ideally including serving and some completed cooking courses.
Requirements
- Current and clear criminal record check.
- Level 1 Food Safe certificate.
- WHMIS certificate.
- Records of immunization status, including a recent clear TB test.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Have the ability, tact, courtesy and patience to establish and maintain good interpersonal relations with tenants, staff, visitors and volunteers.
- Consistently act in a respectful manner, maintaining the spirit, dignity and individuality of tenants and their families.
- Be in good health, free from any communicable diseases, and physically and mentally able to carry out the assigned duties in the working environment.
- Be physically capable of carrying out significant amounts of lifting, bending, stooping and stretching; be able to operate related equipment.
- Be able to speak, read, and write English, and to follow written instructions.
Pay: From $24.05 per hour
