Position Overview
The Property Accountant - Bilingual will play a key role in managing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the financial operations of our Company. This role involves processing accounts and receivable, reconciling bank statements, assisting with budgeting, working papers, and financial statement preparation where required, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, proficiency in accounting software, and a background in property management accounting. Fluent in both English and French is a requirement for this role.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounts Receivable:
- Process and record payments and receipts.
- Monitor outstanding accounts and follow up on overdue balances.
- Prepare and issue tenant statements, receipts, and invoices.
- Process tenant move ins/move outs and security deposit reconciliations.
2. Bank Reconciliations & Financial Records:
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain general ledger entries and ensure accuracy.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Record journal entries and adjustments as needed.
3. Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, working papers, and reports.
- Generate rent roll reports, expense summaries, and budget comparisons.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, lease agreements, and financial policies.
- Perform variance analysis on financial statements.
- Assist with audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
4. Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Support the budgeting process by gathering financial data.
- Track expenses and compare them to budget allocations.
- Provide insights into financial trends and variances.
5. Other Duties:
- Assist property managers with financial inquiries and reports.
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
- Stay updated on accounting best practices and real estate industry trends.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 2+ years of accounting experience in property management or real estate.
- Languages: Fluency in English and French is required.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Yardi, MRI, or similar).
- Strong knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of Accounting standards and financial regulations.
Soft Skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and an initiative-taking proactive approach to resolving problems and improving processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with property management accounting systems.
- Knowledge of lease agreements and real estate financial processes.
- Familiarity with tax regulations related to property management.
Pay: $50,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
