Position Overview: The Education Department at Driftpile Cree Nation is seeking a dedicated, full-time Special Education Teacher to join the Mihtatakaw Sipiy School team for the 2026-2027 school year. Located within the heart of the Boreal Forest, Mihtatakaw Sipiy School offers a comprehensive K-12 academic program enriched by unique Cree language and cultural components. Roles and Responsibilities:

Develop individualized education plans (IPPs) based on the assessment results of these evaluations and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Creating an engaging learning environment that meets individual student needs.

Design and implement a differentiated instruction program tailored to students’ specific needs.

Employ various pedagogical methods and resources to enhance students’ learning experiences.

Work in close collaboration with parents, tutors and other teachers and support staff to ensure that effective communication and support are provided for each student.

Monitor students’ progress and personalize educational strategies to harmonize with their needs and promote student success.

Create and keep detailed, up-to-date records of students’ achievements and difficulties.

Stay informed about current trends, techniques and best practices in special education.

Take part in professional development events and training sessions
Skills and Qualifications:
-
Bachelor of Education with experience in Special Education Teaching degree and Alberta’s Teacher’s Certificate (or eligibility for)

Evidence of progressive special education teaching experience

Excellent understanding of differentiated instruction

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-
Ability to work with teachers to promote and deliver inclusive schooling

Capacity to work in and respond to a demanding, fast-paced school environment

Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check to be presented upon the interview

Ability to speak Cree Language will be an asset
