Job Overview
We are seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator with experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably plastics manufacturing. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Ontario health and safety legislation, conducting workplace inspections, coordinating employee training, investigating incidents, maintaining safety documentation, and promoting a safe and healthy workplace. Experience with WHMIS, JHSC, risk assessments, WSIB, and manufacturing safety practices is required.
Duties
- Develop and oversee comprehensive health and safety policies tailored to the manufacturing plant
- Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety procedures
- Coordinate safety training sessions for staffs and employees to promote awareness and best practices
- Investigate incidents and accidents thoroughly, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions
- Collaborate with managers to integrate safety protocols into daily operations
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training logs, incident reports, and compliance documentation
- Stay current with industry regulations and ensure all construction activities meet legal safety standards
Skills
- Knowledge of Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and regulations
- Understanding of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
- Knowledge of Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) requirements
- Incident and accident investigation skills
- Hazard identification and risk assessment
- Safety inspections and audits
- Emergency response planning and fire safety
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Machine guarding and industrial safety
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance
- Excellent communication skills to effectively train teams, report findings, and liaise with regulatory bodies
- Strong analytical skills to assess risks, investigate incidents, and implement preventive measures
- Ability to prioritize tasks in fast-paced settings while maintaining meticulous attention to detail
