Area Manager - Highway Lead - Eastern and Northern Ontario
Parsons is looking for a seasoned Area Manager - Highway Lead to grow our business in Eastern and Northen Ontario. The candidate will have hands-on project management experience of at least 15 years and will take on a leadership role in our highways business involving both conventional and design/build projects for MTO or other highway programs. We have a long history of working for the MTO on highway improvement projects and want to take advantage of the relationship to grow this business regionally. Supported by a strong design team, the Highway Lead will be building a dedicated team and managing design projects upon award and assisting in the pursuit of new projects.
This role is ideal for a candidate with strong hands-on large scale project management experience and a proven ability to lead major MTO highway assignments, particularly detailed design highway widening and interchange modification projects. You will lead the delivery and growth of Parsons’ highway business in the Eastern and Northern Ontario, overseeing multidisciplinary civil design teams on conventional and design-build MTO highway projects. You will also support strategic client engagement and business development, while working with the existing design team to drive successful project execution and position Parsons for future transportation infrastructure opportunities across the region.
More specifically, the Highway Lead will be responsible for:
- Hiring, growing, coaching and providing leadership for staff including Senior Engineers with extensive Project Management experience working on and leading MTO projects to provide high-quality services and innovative solutions to complex design challenges involving multiple stakeholders projects for Eastern and Northern Ontario
- Leading the design of multi-million-dollar highway infrastructure projects, and taking a leadership role in developing and executing our business plan for roads and highways, and will oversee, manage and build our highway engineering team and portfolio of clients.
- Performing as a Program/Project Manager who is versatile, and who possesses exceptional communication, analytical, and management skills.
- Hiring, managing, coaching and providing leadership for staff including Senior Engineers with extensive Project Management experience working on and leading MTO projects to provide high-quality services and innovative solutions to complex design challenges involving multiple stakeholders.
- Leading and overseeing the preparation of technical reports and documentation of activity for clients and project management and promoting technical excellence and quality assurance of project tasks and deliverables.
- Providing effective and efficient management of relevant day-to-day operations, including scheduling, assigning and reviewing work to achieve project objectives and outcome measures.
- Maintaining an awareness of trends, developments and advancements in relevant fields and broader industry to retain technical competency and provide state-of-the-art services and advice to our clients.
- Acts as the representative with clients and selected subcontractors during project execution.
- Collaborates with Business Development to market and secure additional work with provincial and regional clients.
- Assist in business development activities and undertake leadership roles in proposal preparation including assistance in developing project methodology, work programs, schedules, and budgets.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (or related field)
- Must be Registered as Professional Engineer in Ontario (P.Eng.).
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant technical experience, including 10 years of successful technical leadership and project management experience
- Required experience with MTO, along with strong business development and client relationship management skills within Ontario’s transportation market.
- Demonstrated strong abilities and experience in developing, training, mentoring, motivating, leading and supervising a team of highly qualified professional staff
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Applied knowledge of published standards and guidelines from provincial governments and associations as well as industry regulations.
- Excellent understanding of relevant and highway engineering issues and stakeholders’ requirements.
- Proficient in the application of specialized engineering and assessments software.
- Must also possess a thorough knowledge of current technology and the capabilities and efficiencies of specific engineering software for use in completing engineering assignments.
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams on high-profile transportation infrastructure projects
